Cupping is an ancient healing technique utilized by many cultures around the world dating back as far as Egypt. There are wall and tomb cavings which clearly depict “practitioners” and “clients” performing/receiving cupping. It has been used for countless reasons including but not limited to -common colds, respiratory issues, menstrual cramps, muscle recovery, back pain, tightness, and more.

Fire-cupping is a natural, alternative therapy in which a cup (in this practice, made of glass) is heated using fire and then placed on bare skin. The lack of oxygen in the cup creates suction to lifts layers upon layers of skin, muscle, and fascia. The sensation could be thought of as creating space beneath the skin (the reverse of a massage).

Fire-cupping can be great for tight muscles & recovery, to move stagnation, for those with energetic ‘stuckness’ and as an added benefit, it quickly draws clients into the present.

Cups may be placed and left stagnant on a particular area of tension or be ‘flashed’ (applied and removed quickly repeatedly) or moved (glided along muscles or even in between along the ”sen”). This is the distinction that makes it ”Thai-fire-cupping” — utilizing the Thai energy line system and the intention (harmonizing the spirit). The cups move stagnant energy, are able to create a “deep tissue massage-like sensation” (through gliding) much deeper than hands can reach, melt adhesions blocking the flow of qi (chi/energy), and shift nutrients to different parts of the body. Cupping is often depicted on the back however it can be done on any area of tension in the body including my personal favs: hamstrings, glutes, on the sacrum, soles of feet, and traps.

According to Thai medicine theory, fire-cupping:

When you book a fire-cupping session, massage is also included. Other areas of your body will be focused on until it’s time to move cups. This combo is *deeply relaxing*. Please know, during your session, cups and your body’s response to them will safely monitored. At no time will you be left unattended.
